Decals Meet History

My son and best friend decided to team up for this year's History Fair project... They both play baseball together and originally planned on doing their project on something sports related. Somehow they went from that to the history of milk pasteurization. Seriously, you never know where you may end with these two boys. They have such creative minds. Speaking of their creative minds... they managed to make this project on milk pasteurization FUN!

My son thinks like me, so of course the use of decals had to come into play somehow for their project. The two boys are not only creative, they are both VERY silly too. Watching them work together was (and always is), quite entertaining.

The milk carton was built out of my new dining room light box (which was a great buy - it was marked 69.99 at Home Depot but scanned as 19.99 as a clearance price). The giant straw is a shipping tube with a vinyl decal stripe.

No project is complete without a self-proclaimed grade!

I think the project turned out GREAT and I am really proud of them!

My good friend Ashley, of Let Them Eat Cakes Bakery, texted me recently asking for a custom decal for a paint can she bought to turn into a time capsule. Of course I was excited to help but even more excited with the wonderful idea. I mentioned going and getting a paint can and doing the same... her response, "I already got you one!"

So here they are...

I will have to add that text conversation to my family's time capsule so we remember how a good friend got us started on this new tradition.

{Introducing} Personalized Name Signs

I have made so many of these by special request but never had a chance to make one for my own family... or even take the time to take a photo to post it so I can share with others... like you!

Each sign is hand painted with either black or white paint (more colors may be added in the future or upon special request) and the vinyl lettering is sealed after application. I am currently offering the signs in two basic styles although custom requests are ALWAYS welcome.

A few months ago, I had the pleasure to meet Hilda of JAX Couture Events. She contacted me for a custom logo decal for her new venue located in the Riverside area of Jacksonville, Florida. JAX Couture Events is an event planning company specializing in event decor for package and custom parties and events... with some NEW excited things coming soon!

Her venue is a two story "home" with each room accessible for the events including a kitchen, dining area, buffet area, living room, photo studio and two other rooms. It is located near the center of Jacksonville which makes it easy to get to from all sides of town. The venue is PERFECT for children's parties, a ladies night out get-to-together (which she just hosted last night), brunch, bridal and baby showers and so many other events. In the beginning, talking to her about some of her future project ideas really peeked my interest. I remember thinking to myself, "this lady is going to be a lot of FUN to work with." Brainstorming with Hilda is great... she is very smart and creative. The more I get to work with her on projects, the more excited I get to see what will come next... and the more I get to know her, the more blessed I have felt to have such awesome people in my life.

Ode to the Military : II

Back in October I posted my new military decals that were inspired by my very dear friend Robin. Well it's about that time... he is almost here and she is getting everything ready from his homecoming celebration. She came by this morning for a custom car decal for when she goes to pick him up...

I have been working on this project for some time now... I had to do it little by little when I had time. The sad thing is, in total, it only took about 30 minutes of my time from start to finish. With my son growing SO quickly, I had to hurry up and get this one done!

So without further adieu, Project : 7 of : 23

I started with a raw piece of lumber from Home Depot and painted it white. (I took a photo of the wood before I painted it but accidentally deleted it AFTER I painted... can't go back and start over on this one.)

I brushed 2 coats of white paint with a white paint brush. I wanted to the wood to look kind of aged, but not distressed.

I have NO idea why this photo keeps posting sideways... so just tilt your head while looking at it.

Next I designed the ruler markers on the computer and cut them as a decal.

I used a tape measure next to the wood as I applied the decal just to make sure I was staying on track, even though I designed the decal with exact measurements.

...and viola!!! A giant ruler in my hallway. I anchored a wall between the kiddos rooms.

As soon as I stepped back from it after putting it up on the wall, my 2 year old ran over and stood in front of it with her back against it. How she knew what it was for was beyond me... and when my son woke up this morning and saw it, his first instinct was to measure himself too. Gotta love it!

I am really knocking out projects with my project of projects, Project :: 23

Who would have thought that me posting this idea on my blog would keep me so motivated. Maybe I should start posting all my to-do list type stuff on here.

Today I knocked out Project 4... although I have been working on it for several days here and there. I am planning on turning a wall in one of my hallways into a mini museum with my children's artwork. My son is now 13 and I have a large storage container filled with his toddler - kindergarten artwork. My 2 year daughter is also a little artist.

One thing I thought about adding to the museum wall was some information about them. I decided to make a "stat plaque" for each of them...

I am steadily working on my project of projects, Project :: 23

This morning I completely Project 2 and it was super easy and even cheaper than easy! I saw this great project on the Choose to Thrive blog back in may and new I wanted to make my own this Autumn.

So without further adieu, Project : 2 of : 23

The project only cost me a couple of dollars... and that was for the vinyl lettering I made. My neighbor was ever so kind to supply me with the brown bottles and the straw looking stuff was picked from a bush outside. I was going to use wheat but wanted to try this first... being that it was FREE.

The niche it is sitting in is such a shallow shelf that I usually have trouble finding things to fit it. I think this is just right for the season.

Last week I decided that I am going to spend this year (from my birthday October 23rd, yesterday - to October 23rd 2012) with a goal... to complete at least 23 DIY projects. I have dubbed this challenge,

So without further adieu, Project : 1 of : 23

I picked up this metal sign last year just after Halloween. It was about 75% off along with the rest of the Halloween clearance at Joanns. I painted over the seasonal sign with black craft paint and then added the verse (vinyl decal I made). I bought the 2 frames and painted them black too. Then printed the photos off on the computer.

The ribbons came from my stash. I glued the black with white trim ribbon to the olive green ribbon to give it a little more character. I made the two little bows and glued them to the frames. After I added the ribbon bow to the top, I let me 13 year old son decide where it should be hung on the wall. He picked a space near the hallway where his room and his sister's room it.

{Real Wedding} Getting Married ---> This Way!

Creative clients are always fun to work with. They come with all types of ideas and projects that even make me excited on being a part of the project. A very creative client of mine, Ina, came to me a few months ago with a few great home decor projects (will get to those on another post). After those, she came back for more decals for yet another project... for her wedding.

She made these two signs by adding our decals to wooden arrow signs. They turned out great!

Waiting for October 1st felt like it was taking FOREVER! I was just itching to start my Halloween Decorating. I started to pull my pumpkins and Halloween decor out weeks ago. My husband came home from work one day about 2 weeks ago and said... "Umm... you do know it's September, right?"

{DIY Tutorial} Mailbox Update by Fireflies and Jellybeans

I recently made a custom home address decal for Fawnda of Fireflies and Jellybeans, a DIY Club member which she used to personalize her mailbox.

She wrote an easy to follow tutorial on how she applied the decal to her mailbox to personalize it.

1. Tape your vinyl in place with blue painter’s tape.

2. removed the backing so that your vinyl is all on the transfer paper.

3. Rub over the transfer paper with a card to make sure your vinyl sticks to your mail box

4. peel off the transfer paper slowly.

{Real Party} 2nd Birthday Featuring Olivia

Hosting a kid's party? I'd love to help with the custom / personalized party decor. Check out the special touches I added to this super cute party.

I made this personalized sign-in board book using my vinyl decals to create the text and added the print of Olivia. The pens and markers were topped with white carnations and placed in a small mason jar that I added a chalkboard decal to.

I can customize board books for just about any theme. For this party, guests signed blank areas of pages and left special notes to the birthday girl. Spaces were also left to write the story of her birthday party and for photos.

I used vinyl decal polka dots to coordinate everything.

My friend Marni, owner of Creative Custom Card Boxes created a cardbox for my Ten23 Designs grand opening and I switched out the colors for Mya's party. These boxes are very sturdy and will last a good long time.

I designed these personalized water bottle labels and printed them on waterproof bottle labels.

I made these smaller labels for the bubbles.

Last year, we had the privilege to work with another client of Tanya Hendricks from Southern Charm Events... Andrea and David. Andrea found a style of wedding stationery she really like, that she just wanted tweaked a bit. The stationery company could not make those changes for her so Tanya, brought her to me.

I was able to redesign the wedding stationary to her exact request and one of our recommended vendors, Beth of Forever Friends had the stationery printed and provided beautiful pocket folds.

I even created coordinating Save the Date magnets for the couple.

Last year, Nicole of The Plunge Project came to me with a project. She wanted me to turn her monogram into a decal to place on a wine box for special part of her upcoming wedding ceremony. Done!

She and her groom each separately wrote love notes to each other on the eve of their wedding day. During the ceremony they took their letters and placed them in the wooden wine box and sealed it... only to be opened on their 10th wedding anniversary. Sweet huh?!?

All month of October I wanted to make some sort of "blessing" board. I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted to do but I knew I wanted to do something and have it ready by November... Well October rolled on by... and then November. Here I am on November 29th and I FINALLY made my "blessings" board.

This is a 14" x 26" glass frame that you can use dry erase markers on. The backing is burlap and you can change it out with other fabric, wrapper paper, scrapbook paper or anything else you can think of. Change it out for the holidays and seasons!

Ten23 Designs ONE Year Anniversary

This Saturday, October 23rd, Ten23 Designs celebrated it's ONE year anniversary... or as I called it, our 1st birthday. Ten23 stands for October (10th month) 23rd. This is a special date for me, as it is my birthday.

I was touched to have some of my vendor friends donate special goodies for my BIG DAY personalized with my logo on it.

Cherin from Customized Wedding Creations hand painted a runner for me that I turned into a pillow. I totally LOVE it. It now sits on my office chair and gives me support throughout my work day, just like Cherin does.

Dorinda of Favors by Dorinda made the CUTEST lollipops and mini chocolate bars with my logo on it. I was almost sad to see people leave with them but hey... that's what favors are for. Luckily, I was able to nab a few for myself as a keepsake. Of course I will have to eat the chocolate but will keep the wrapper.

Marni the Cardbox Diva, owner of Creative Custom Cardboxes hooked me up with a bling bling cardbox, complete with logo face plate. This will get plenty of use next year as I join the expo, and event show circuit. It will be great to hold giveaway entries at my booth.

Angie of S & A Events made the tastiest treats... an apple puff tart and an asiago, pepperoni & basil puff pastry... oh YUM!!! The apple puff tarts were gone so quickly with requests for more. I am glad I was able to try one before they were gone.

Angie also created the BEAUTIFUL floral centerpieces that were created with flowers my logo color with touches of orange & blue... because everything should have a touch of GATOR in it!

I was happy to also have the privilege to display a handcrafted ring bearer pillow made by Victoria Joanne of HCC Hand Crafted Creations as a collaboration project we did together, an invitation sample from Beth of Forever Friends, also as a collaboration project we did together and was able to get the word out about Shop to Stop Slavery, a company owned by a friend that helps educate consumers on modern day slave labor.

The ONE year celebration was a success... filled with family and friends.

Thank you to all who participated and all who sent their well wishes... I am looking forward to a productive year TWO!

When we moved into our new home in June of 2007, my first order of business for the living room was to find a good size black mirror to place on an empty wall. We have vaulted ceilings and it made this blank wall, look even more blank! :o)

I got lucky and found a wood mirror in the size I wanted at a yard sale for only $15. I took it home and painted it black, then of course added my signature... a vinyl decal. For almost 3 years the mirror with our monogram graced our living room. Many of our guests came into our home and complimented it... I even got holiday gift requests for similar decals from my friends. (My friends know they can usually count on a personalized, decal related gift from me).

This week I decided to change it up a bit. This month marks 3 years in our home, it since it was no longer new, I decided to change it up a bit and bring some "new" back into it. Both my husband and son were gone all week. My son, to camp... my husband, on business. Now my husband knows when he is away, he can usually expect to come home to something either new or different. It is just the way it is. :o)

Well, when my son got home from camp last night, he came into the living room to share his camp experiences with me. Before he even finished his first sentence, he began to smile... then pointed up. "I like that Mom!" Yes, my 12 year old noticed my hard work, and appreciated it. I must admit, it was rewarding to hear him say that. Now let's see what my husband has to say about it in a few hours.

I remember when my son (now 12) first started pre-school. His new teacher asked him his name, to which he replied, "Isaac." Before she could get her next sentence out, he continued, "It means he who will laugh... and I do laugh a lot!" She smiled, and told him, "that name suits you well." And quite frankly, it always has. My son always brings laughter.

It's back to school time again. While some of us are "lucky" to have our kids still at home with us... some are "lucky" to have their kids going off to college. Most dorm rooms (& rented apartments, condo, houses, etc.) have strict rules about NOT being allowed to paint. Bummer!

Personalize This: Special Request

I've said it before & I'll say it again... I love custom requests. I mostly create designs for weddings (monograms) and children's rooms. I couldn't say I enjoy one over the other. Seeing a happy bride use one of my monogram decal on the dance floor makes me just as happy as seeing a child's face light up when they see their name written on the wall with their favorite design.

A dear friend of mine who I have known for ages recently asked me to design a wall decal for her daughter, Destinee'. She enjoys gymnastics & bright colors so I created this personalized wall decal for her.

Victoria the custom wedding garter specialist, who happens to be another friend of mine who I met recently via Twitter left me a message asking me to create a design for her son's birthdays which are coming up.

They enjoy skateboarding. I have a few more ideas to work up, but this is what I have come up with so far.

Welcome

For some time now, I have been trying to figure out what to put in the niche by my front door. I went through a few vases... a few hangings... I even tried to just leave it empty. About a month ago, I finally found a vase I liked. Small & Simple.
After I put the vase in, I realized it needed a little extra something about the vase. Being a decal maker... it was obvious that wording of some sort was the way to go. I just couldn't figure out the right saying, so I went with a simple "Welcome." I added some nice scroll work to finish it off.

I think it left the perfect touch to greet my guests. What do you think?

Boring to Blingish

I have had my laptop for a little while & never really had any complaints about it. But after going to my friends house & seeing her laptop with her fancy swirly designs, I knew I needed to upgrade.

I started playing with some wall designs I have made & shrinking them down to "Laptop" size. There was one design in particular that I really liked so I knew instantly it was "the one... for now.

I wouldn't call it bling, since it doesn't actually sparkle... but it is definitely blingish. I used the removable wall vinyl so I could easily peel it off if I needed to.

My favorite decals to work on are custom requests... I love when someone comes to me with a thought & finishes with, "can this be done?" That question trigers all sorts of ideas & excitement for both me & the client. :)

Today I was asked for wall decals for a brother & sister team. The brother does karate & the sister does ballet. Mom wanted something different for each, yet similar enough that they couldn't fuss that one had something better than the other.

One of my faithful blog followers recently entered a haiku contest on another blog. Me, being a person with extremely curly hair felt the compassion in the haiku she wrote... almost as if she had written it to me, for me, about me. (This is such a romantic tale)

Regardless if she really did have any thoughts of me when writing it, it definitely inspired me. As a good friend & faithful reader, I couldn't resist to turn her haiku into a decal for her...

I just love personalizing things. There is something about adding a name to things that gives it that extra special touch. I found this great light green, metal bucket at Hobby Lobby that matched Mya's crib bedding (the material I used to sew her crib bedding came from Hobby Lobby as well).

I used a decal of her name that I made earlier & added it to the bucket...

Organize Me!

This is the summer of organization at our house. Each of us, (minus the baby) have taken responsibility of certain areas of our home to come up with new organizing tools. While most who know me might think that the kitchen would have been one of my areas... only part of the kitchen in mine. The hubby took on the pantry & our son has the sink area. I suppose that is possibly because the hubby has the most snacks in the pantry & our son washes the dishes. We will see what they come up with.

My first idea for organizing came to me quite a while ago, but I just finally put it into action. We have several canisters on the counter which holds; flour, sugar, rice & brown sugar... ingredients we use most often. The canisters are stainless steal so you cannot see through them and I always have to open each lid to see what is inside (since they are never in a particular order).

So wah-la! My canister labels were born. We have white appliances so I decided to make the labels white... and they have that "pop" that I just love. Hopefully we will soon figure out what color to paint the walls in the kitchen so it will "pop" even more with the contrast.

I have the labels for sale in Etsy shop for only $6 for 6 labels. Of course, they are custom made to your request, so I can make any labels you need. I recently did an order which had Margarita Salt as one of their selections. If you can think it, I can make it. The labels come in any over the colors I have available & if you have a desired font, I can use that too.

Family Monogram on the Mirror

I love using our family monogram. Sometimes I run out of ideas on places to use it. We have a large mirror in our living room that I thought would be the perfect place to place our family monogram.

I matched the color of the "The Atwaters Family" piece to coordinate with the living room furniture. It gives the once plain wall a personalized, warm touch.

Sharing My Passion

Having a passion is always a great thing. Being able to take your passion & making a living from it is an even better thing... but sharing your passion with your love ones is the very best thing.

My son turned 11 at the end of January. Days before his birthday he came to me & told me that he has been doing a lot of thinking about his future & he has thought of something he enjoys that may generate some income to help pay for college. To my surprise, it was graphic design.

His first project was for his own room.

He knew he wanted his name & he wanted it to be "cool." He spent a few days coming up with a design to put on his wall in his room. His final design did not only spell his name, it spoke it.

He did have my assistance cutting the design from vinyl, although he is learning how to cut vinyl designs on his own.

When Cathy came to me last year requesting a custom decal for her wedding, I could tell from our very first conversation that she was so in love with her fiance, Jose.

She came up with a beautiful idea to write her future husband a love letter & to have me turn it into a decal for her. She posted the decal in the entry of her venue as a surprise to Jose when he walked in...

Not only was he able to see her love note to him as he came in, but she shared it with her guests... it was a reminder to all of the reason they were brought together on this special day.

Cathy also requested a custom font to one of my monogram scroll designs to personalize the front door of the venue. She truly made the venue her own for the day!

Once again I had the pleasure to work with Tanya Hendricks of Southern Charm Events located in Jacksonville, Florida (where I live). Tanya is known in the industry for having an amazing eye for detail. She knows that some of the smallest things, can have a very big impact.

The monogram glass blocks with the lights inside of them were a big hit once again. They add such a charming personalization to any area of the room.

If your wedding has a theme other than your monogram, a decal of your theme image would also make for an awesome focal point.

One area that can sometimes be tricky to decorate is the sign-in table and place card table. Tanya added the couples monogram decal to a frame and wha-laa, personalized decor that doesn't take up too much space on the table.

*Great home decor idea* Take photos from the wedding and create a collage under the glass so the monogram sits above it. It's all about creating memories.

The venue had a large dance floor. To bring the open space together, Tanya added the dance floor decal and then spaced 6' snow flake decals I made for her sporadically throughout the dance floor. She created the perfect winter wonderland for the happy couple.

For the ceremony, Tanya even added a monogram decal to an aisle runner, for a quick, affordable personalized touch! (Photo coming soon).

I recently had the pleasure of working with Tanya Hendricks, owner of Southern Charm Events on a couple of weddings... each equally fantastic. Tanya does an amazing job putting a wedding together and makes any size budget look like a high end affair.

The first project I worked on with Tanya was for a beautiful couple, Ashleigh & Andrew. Their colors were dark pink & black infused into a damask theme.

For the lovely couple, I created a dance floor monogram decal, several monograms for glass blocks which Tanya lit up (beautiful), a monogram frame to greet guests, an aisle runner and a monogram vase for the sign in table.

The monogram vase was used to hold wine corks that the guests signed as they entered the affair. What a neat concept!

Inspiration Board: Pink & Green Birthday

With my daughter's first birthday in just 3 months, I though it would be a good time to start planning. I love handmade treasures and was able to build this collection of mostly all handmade & mommy made goodies.

The monogram in the center was designed by me & would be used on her invitations, thank you cards & of coarse it will be made into a decal for the front door & other various locations throughout the event.

My husband and I love to serve good eats on a skewer. Food on a stick = smiling faces. Orange1 has these great cocktail skewers with beautiful beaded tips.

My daughter hasn't had any custom clothes made for her yet, and I think her birthday is a great occassion to have a shirt made for her. Modernfrills has cute birthday shirts and much more.

One of my favorite types of favors to send guests home with are sweet treats. Accent the Party must share my sweet favor passion. They offer these yummy custom gum wrappers & personalize for FREE.

I have been in love with these beautiful maryjane baby shoes made by GraciousMay since before my daughter was born. I just love the color, pattern & the flower is the perfect topper.

Sugarandspicekid on Etsy knows parties. She creates some of the cutest party hats & bloomers I have ever seen. I cannot wait to see my little girl in her 1st birthday hat.

As I mentioned, I love cupcakes... and I love the cupcake toppers PamperYourParty has created. Not only are they the perfect cupcake topper for this event, they also have a coordinating invitation which is very nice.

We cannot forget about room decor... thank goodness PartyPoms has not forgotten. Her blossoms are so delightful and can hang in any area of the party.

Wedding Winter Wonderland

I recently designed the monogram above for a dance floor decal. The couple is getting married this December with a Tiffany Blue & Red Winter Wonderland theme. Shortly after I designed the monogram for their dance floor decal, I found an adorable invitation created by TomKat Studio that coordinated with the monogram beautifully.

The bride was so happy to see the coordinating pieces and asked for my help with a few other pieces to tie her big day together. It led me to put together this inspiration board for her.

The snowflake sugar cookies are made by Sugar Cookie Couture on Etsy and would make a perfect favor for the guests. The hydrangea felt brooch is a great way to add personal flair to a dress and is handmade by Chet and Dot, found on Etsy.

Staying with the handmade Etsy finds, Sugar and Spice Children's Boutique has this adorable headband just the right size for your little flower girl. The gorgeous necklace was also found on Etsy and is handmade by Kelly Betts.

Daisy's and Dots have created this paper cake in Tiffany blue with red ribbon and it makes for the perfect centerpiece and can be filled with any goodie you would like to send your guests home with.

Autumn Inspiration Board Challenge

As I walked outside this morning I noticed something different... there was something in the air. No, it wasn't love... it was Autumn. Here in sunny Florida, you do not hear the word Autumn very much. As a matter of fact, only the northerners (such as myself) tend to say Autumn.

I personally miss Autumn. I miss the crisp, clean, chilled air. I miss Mother Nature's painted canvas of leaves changing colors. Oh the beauty of Autumn. Well stepping out into the Autumn air this morning, a monogram design instantly came to me.

I don't want the beauty of Autumn to stop there... so I am challenging YOU to design an Autumn inspired inspiration board (try saying that 3 times fast).

Brenda's Wedding Blog created this beautiful Autumn board that brings the beautiful burnt orange & brown from the Autumn season.

The boutonniere is my personal favorite from this collection. Although Brenda did not know this when creating this board, I used the same photo as an inspiration for my own board I put together. Smart minds think alike.

Events by Heather Ham put this amazing board together. She highlighted all of the wonderful colors associated with Autumn... including my favorite color, PURPLE.

The candy apple is a fun idea to use as a favor for Autumn weddings & the lanterns really help to set the mood.

CNI Designs, created two great Autumn inspiration boards. The first highlights crimson & mustard colors which are classics to the Autumn season. This one makes a perfect match for the monogram I designed above.

The second designed by CNI Designs pulls out more of the orange from the season's colors. I just love the monogramed pumkin & tree stump candle holders.

Personalize Your Tiffany Inspired Themed Wedding

One of the most classic wedding theme's that I do not think will ever grow old is the Tiffany inspired theme. The Tiffany blue is such a brilliant color & can coordinate well with almost any other color. I have seen Tiffany blue with black, white, silver, shades of pink, shades of brown, red and a few others.

I met a bride on Weddingbycolor.com a few months ago that was planning a Tiffany inspired wedding for this winter. She was using the classic Tiffany blue & white with a touch of silver for her color palette.
