A new baby is on the way—time to plan a baby shower! How do you get started? On my blog,
Spaceships and Laser Beams, I specialize in parties for boys (and non-frilly girls!) so I see lots of parties
and I have lots of suggestions to help you plan yours.
Once you know where you want to host the party (your home, or an alternate venue like a clubhouse,
etc.), there are five main components to plan: invitations; decorations; menu; activities; and favors.
Deciding on a theme for your baby shower will help you
make decisions for each of those segments because it gives you focus.
Choosing Your Baby Shower Theme
There are tons of theme ideas, but how do you choose just one? This is what I have found to be most
helpful:
- Decide if the focus is to be on baby (nursery rhymes, toys, welcome to the world, Disney
characters, favorite books, etc.)
- Or will the shower primarily honor new mama-to-be and her interests/hobbies
- Is there a favorite color or seasonal inspiration
- What mood do you want to establish; is this casual/formal or something in-between
When you’ve decided on the theme, then the fun begins! Although you can buzz out to a local party
store, there are a lot of decorative options to be found via internet with party printables. Especially
if you are going with a unique idea, you’re more likely to find what you’re looking for online. Some
businesses print and cut everything for you, while others offer you the option of downloading and
printing for yourself. Many of those items can be used in multiple ways which allow fuel for the
imagination! Check out Ten23 Design, too; they have a number of decorations that would be terrific for a shower and
to keep for using later in the nursery.
Planning a baby shower is fun work, but it’s so worth it because you’re creating a memory that guests
will enjoy and mama-to-be will remember forever!
