A new baby is on the way—time to plan a baby shower! How do you get started? On my blog, Spaceships and Laser Beams, I specialize in parties for boys (and non-frilly girls!) so I see lots of parties and I have lots of suggestions to help you plan yours. Once you know where you want to host the party (your home, or an alternate venue like a clubhouse, etc.), there are five main components to plan: invitations; decorations; menu; activities; and favors. Deciding on a theme for your baby shower will help you make decisions for each of those segments because it gives you focus.
Choosing Your Baby Shower ThemeThere are tons of theme ideas, but how do you choose just one? This is what I have found to be most helpful:
- Decide if the focus is to be on baby (nursery rhymes, toys, welcome to the world, Disney characters, favorite books, etc.)
- Or will the shower primarily honor new mama-to-be and her interests/hobbies
- Is there a favorite color or seasonal inspiration
- What mood do you want to establish; is this casual/formal or something in-between
